What's "Up"?

I am contemplating getting a bikini wax for our big trip to Vegas. It just seems like a vacation kind of thing to do. I've had one before, so I went to the website of that place and something struck me as odd. It says, "bikini wax: $25 and up". The "up" part threw me. Why isn't it just one price? Where exactly do the "up" charges come in? Do they take a look at you and say, "What you got goin' on there will cost you $30"? I'm just curious to know how that decision is made. And how do I ensure that I pay only $25 and not upward of $25?

Incidentally, a Brazilian wax is $60 and up.

I have no idea what would be taken into consideration for the "and up" part and probably don't want to know.

I have heard that bikini waxes are the least favorite thing for the person at the salon to do - which I completely understand. I've also heard that you're supposed to "trim" ahead of time.

Just getting an eyebrow wax leaves me sensitive and swollen, I can't imagine what would happen after a bikini wax. :)

i've heard all horror stories about bikini waxes, so i just steer clear (TMI?). i think you should call just to ask about the "and up" part. see what they say!

HAHA! M. I am cracking up! "What you got goin' on there will cost you $30." hehehe!

The only thing I can think of is either there are "add-ons" to a standard bikini wax or it is about how much of their supply they use.

Yeah, I would call and see and good luck!

a) You better post a follow-up with an answer to the great "and up" mystery.

b) Viva la Brazilian! (or the Hollywood)

M- Okay, I have all your answers, as someone who (TMI WARNING) regularly gets a brazilian.

The $25 price is probably only going to cover barely what you would want gone so that you wouldn't embarrass yourself in a bathing suit...and yes, the and up really does mean they assess "what you've got goin on" and price it ;) Everyone is different, as far as how much hair, and how difficult of a wax you are, and that all goes into consideration. For example, I also get my underarms waxed - and apparently, i don't have much hair, and it can be done in almost one strip, so i get charged the lowest price.
I would be prepared to pay about $40, and if it is less, be thrilled. Also, yes you are supposed to trim before you go - not too short though ;) And it doesn't hurt nearly as much as you think it will - i actually think my eyebrows hurt more. Also, make sure you exfoliate in the days following - and taking some ibuprofen before you go can help with redness and swelling.
And now I've written you a novel on bikini waxing!

And there you have it.

Man, this creates even more anxiety about the whole process. Now I have to be worried about how I look when I go in and THEN worry about the pain. Geez Louise! The funny part is that I've already done this, but I feel more anxious the second time?

Thanks for the info Hilary! I think you've done a service for all of those who read this blog :)

PS - Did you have it done? I am scheduled to have one done this week after a friend inspired me. However, I am nervous....
