Thank goodness for accrued vacation time!

It's been more than 2 whole months since we went to Vegas, so obviously it's time for another vacation. MD and I are heading to Grand Cayman Island in September in honor of our upcoming first anniversary! I'm so excited. I don't know much about the Cayman Islands, but I'm doing some research. Research like, what time does the hotel swim-up bar open, how big is the pool, does the Cayman Island Chamber of Commerce recommend that I pack jeans because it gets cool at night, where's the closest shopping center, that kind of stuff.

Frequent vacationing probably won't be the norm for us, but we thought we should travel while we can before one of those money-sucking kids comes along.

I have to get a new passport today. The one that I got 13 years ago has gone missing. The forms I had to fill out for a missing expired passport involved everything short of an internal probe. Dudes, I just lost it, I didn't sell it to any aliens, I didn't leave my bags unattended at the airport, I'm not in the witness protection program, I just, ya know, moved.

First off, this is really exciting! This is some place I've always thought about going to!

Secondly, no post would really be worth reading if it didn't contain "those money-sucking kids" and "internal probe" mere sentences away from one another.

How fun! I'm so jealous. Our vacations are to Ohio.

Have fun! Bummer about the passport - they're not cheap.

Grand Cayman was one of our stops on our honeymoon. It's a nice little - very flat - island.

It's British, so it's very "American" if you ask me (compared to Jamaica, our 1st stop). I felt like they cut out a section of Florida and dropped it in the middle of the ocean.

Very nice though. There's a town called "Hell" that we visited and a Turtle Farm...yay...that's where my picture here was taken, of me holding a turtle. Lots of snorkling and stuff like that to do.

How fun.

Dr. Turtle - I can't believe you said the flat thing. Ironic. A co-worker of mine just returned from Grand Cayman, too. The first words out of his mouth were, "It's very flat."

Dr. Turtle, I can't believe that you said that you went to the turtle farm there and that's where your blog photo is from, because I told MD that EXACT thing last night.

I'm glad it's flat, I don't like my beaches hilly.

it seriously is the flattest place ever...for some reason, it's just the first thing you notice. Maybe it's because it's an island, you expect it to be a little bit of a hill? who knows?

(I've never ever been on a hilly beach...I like them flat too!)

I heart the turtle farm. I bought a turtle (piggy) bank there and another turtle figure thingy. (I refused to eat the turtle soup though...ew)

And I think it's funny that MD knows that about my honeymoon/my picture and that he had to tell you...

No, I told HIM that.

He asked if you were going to be jealous cause we get to go to that turtle farm, and I said "nope, she's already been there."

love Grand Cayman. it was one of our stops on our honeymoon cruise. i would go back there in a heartbeat [unlike Jamaica where i don't ever need to go again]

go snorkeling on the barrier reef near stingray city. awesome. and go to Stingray City. it's so cool to feed the rays and have them swim around you![on a sandbar in the MIDDLE of the ocean]

oh, and six years ago when we went, 2 hamburgers and 2 cokes at the hard rock cafe was oh, $30 US. uh-huh. not a cheap place.

oh..they are also known for their black coral jewelry.

ok...that's all.

Thanks TLC! I love to hear suggestions on what to see and do!

Black coral jewelry sounds lovely.

Yeah, the book I was reading indicated that this is not a cheap place to visit. We fould that out after we booked the tix. We ate frozen mini corn dogs on our honeymoon in Hawaii, so we know all about vacationing on a budget.

You are correct in doing this pre-kids. I had a kid less than a year after we were married. We never took a honeymoon. I told my husband that next year is our 5 year anniv and we MUST go to Hawaii. He said, "We'll see how much it costs." And I said, "Oh heck no. I've been waiting 5 years for Hawaii. I'm going by myself then." :)

Soak in some sunshine for me!!!

Ha! Quiet Oasis, you're right, you deserve a honeymoon/anniversary trip. Tell your husband I said so.

Hawaii is so beautiful. You should sell a kidney if you have to to get there. It'd be so worth it.
